A challenge accepted!

First, how about a little history.

Alessia Brio of Phaze, is the editor of a series of books called Coming Together which are based in various causes and is unique in that all the net proceeds go to a set charity. Susan G. Koman for the Cure has been designated the recipient of the proceeds from the recently released Coming Together: For the Cure.

On Wednesday August 22 author Alison Kent blogged about breast cancer and promised to buy 1 copy of Coming Together: For the Cure [now available] for every 10 comments left [max. 25 copies]. The deadline to accomplish this has been set for October 1. It's been three days and she has over 200 comments. So, with all this good nature swirling around blogland, Alessia Brio set a challenge down and I accepted. Author-bloggers who host a similar contest will have a recipe added to the 2008 Coming Together: In the Kitchen, which will benefit Action Against Hunger.

I'm keeping it simple: for every 10 comments left, I'll purchase a copy of Coming Together: For the Cure and will give away them away to commentors here. This will be open for a month [September 21] and will max out at 10 copies. And, one commentor will receive a copy of my December ebook OohRah! and will also have it dedicated to them or whomever they wish...ummm, have I mentioned yet that US Marine Dale Smythe and Tasha Ruskya meet during a fundraising run for breast cancer? Yup, and he looks lovely in pink :-)

So, get busy, leave a comment about yourself, family, friends, whomever or however breast cancer has affected you, or what you or someone close to you does so it doesn't!

UPDATE: Jessica Russell, Samantha Sommersby, Kathryn Lively, Victoria Blisse and Tammi Flora have all accepted Alessia Brio's challenge...visit them, make a comment, it's a totally painless way to help!

UPDATE: The first 3 CD winners have been contact - congratulations...but I have 7 more to give away. And, don't forget, one person will be chosen from all the commenters to have OohRah! dedicated to them, or someone of their picking, and a copy of the December release. So keep commenting :-)

Think Pink!

Hi! I came over here from the RT boards as I can't pass up something that benefits breast cancer research and if it involves the chance for a free book or two - I'm totally lost.

As you can probably tell by my avatar, I'm a BC Survivor. So this is very near and dear to my heart.

Thanks for doing this!

Jen

What a wonderful thing to do for such a worthy cause. I just had a breast exam on Wednesday. I'm a bit concerned because the doctor found some dense spots on both breasts. I've have cysts in the past (though not on my breasts) so I'm thinking positive that it's just that and not cancerous growths.

Tilly - Thanks so much for joining in! (Don't put me in the drawing, I'm just here for support!) I've added a new prize incentive - backlist copies from my good friend, Jan Freed, who is the breast cancer survivor who inspired me to do this.

This is such a great cause! My mom did the three day breast cancer walk. Now I feel like I'm doing something, too!

I don't have anybody that I am really close to who have breast cancer but my uncle had lymphoma last year and I know how hard that was on everyone. He had to go through a lot but now he is doing great. I think it is amazing how many people have come together to support such a great cause!

How wonderful of you to do this Tilly! What a worthy cause! Breast cancer became real to me a few years back when a malignant tumor was found in one of her breasts. After her surgery we were in constant fear it would reoccur but it has not. Early intervention saved her.

What a wonderful descission! I know many of the authors in question and highly reccomend the book in general, and nothing beats the cause!

It is wonderful what you all are doing to help out. While I don't have a family member that has been affected by cancer, someday, I might, and we all need to work together to find a cure. And we need to do it now.

Good for you on joining in...and OohRah! sounds fun :)

Wow - what an awesome way to raise money & awareness!! I've done the Breast Cancer 3 day / 60 mile walk the last two years to support Susan G. Komen for the cure. I lost one aunt 3 years ago to breast cancer, and have 2 others that are surviviors - so this cause is VERY dear to me and my family. Thank you for supporting it this way.

You are doing a wonderful thing. It was a shock to find out that my old college roommate was battling breast cancer. She is a vibrant and fit person. I would never have imagined serious illness touching her. Thankfully, she has been successful in her battle with the disease...it has been 5 years of being in the clear.

My best friend died of cancer last year. She was 36. Thank you for doing this.

I lost my grandmother to breast cancer when I was 12, and I keep hoping that I won't ever lose another loved one to it. Thanks so much for fighting the fight. ~ Sherry Hawk

Tilly,

It's wonderful that you have joined in. I think this is one fight that we can win - if we all make sure to check ourselves, listen to our bodies, and when we can spare it - chip in a few dollars to the cause.

Glad to see you are helping out a good cause. I am currently jobless and was a recipent of a Kolman grant to get my first mammography last January. I've always been a donor to this cause before- it's good to know help is out there if you need it.

What an awesome idea. Well, Breast cancer has not plagued my family, however, my 59 year old mother with just diagnosed with Non hodgkins lymphoma stage 4. This is a woman who weighs 120, never eats fat, doesnt smoke and has always taken care of herself. There isnt even a family history. So, she just finished her 3rd chemo treatment and the doc says she is doing great. Im not ready to lose my mother. Cancer is a horrible disease but I think the right attitude helps. She is determined to beat it and Im right by her side. God bless to all the cancer victims, families, and surviviors:)

What a great thing to do!

My Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and then they found out she has ovarian cancer also. She is fighting a brave fight. She turned 69 today.

What a wonderful thing you all are doing. I had my mammo back in February. Had a bit of a scare when they found a dense spot and wanted to do a sonogram. Turned out it was just a mole under my breast that they didn't mark. But it was a nerve-wracking couple of weeks until the sonogram could be done. Thanks again for doing this.

Tilly, thanks so much for this special blog topic. I have had three special women in my family who had to deal with breast cancer. My great aunt wasn't diagnosed soon enough and did not survive. My grandmother found hers early and was a survivor. My aunt is currently undergoing radiation treatments with the high hopes her surgery and post treatment will get all the cancer.

Thanks again Tilly for helping this cause!

This is so awesome! I'm a cancer survivor -- yesterday was the nine year anniversary of the day they removed the tumor, a HUGE landmark for me! -- and things like this truly make my world a happier place. My family has been impacted greatly by breast cancer; my aunt is a survivor, and two sisters have been identified as having the gene. It helps to ease their minds when they see all the efforts being made to reach a cure, so if they do have to face their own breast cancer, it won't be quite as scary. Thank you SO MUCH for doing this.

P.S. My boyfriend is a cancer survivor as well (Hodgkin's Disease), and is now a breast cancer research scientist working hard to eradicate this terrible disease. I know he'll be pleased to hear about this as well. : )

Tilly, I love that took up the challenge from Alison's blog. As a breast cancer survivor I think it is wonderful that this much attention and fundraising is being done in this manner. As always, it gives hope which is what we live for and with.

This is a wonderful idea--thank you! Wouldn't it be wonderful to actually have a cure for breast cancer one day?
