For the Mystery Lover
The Bee Keeper’s Apprentice (Mary Russell #1) by Laurie R. King
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees when a young woman literally stumbles into him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes--and match him wit for wit. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective. In their first case together, they must track down a kidnapped American senator's daughter and confront a truly cunning adversary--a bomber who has set trip wires for the sleuths and who will stop at nothing to end their partnership. Full of brilliant deductions, disguises, and dangers, this first book of the Mary Russell--Sherlock Holmes mysteries is "wonderfully original and entertaining . . . absorbing from beginning to end"

Yeah, a recommended book I've actually read. I enjoyed The Beekeeper's Apprentice, but like the original S.H. stories it was not a home run for me, but a decent read and a novel take on the S.H. genre.
I do love the original S.H.stories as well.
I read The Beekeeper's Apprentice and really enjoyed it. I read about 2 or 3 books of the series; I enjoyed them, too.
Like the other posters, I enjoyed the original Sherlock Holmes series, too.
Thanks,

Bee Keeper's Apprentice...ahhhhh bee's freak me out so I definitely don't want to read about anything to do with them....LOL
But Tiger shifters..I can definitely get into that.
LOL. The bees are kept to a minimum. I do love the original Sherlock Holmes and can't wait to see the new movie.
I love Laurie King's SH books. Good choice!
