Thursday 13 - #3!

A Passion for Fashion and Bondage is the name of a series I've been writing lately. The first is "The Leather Bride", due out in May from Phaze, the second is "Taming Marie Antoinette", where I delve further into the world of fashion.

Oh, yes, I love fashion in all its manifestations, even though I'm usually found in shorts, t-shirt and thongs [and never wear heels]. A little secret between you and me...I was in school to be a designer until I was found out to be a fraud. No problem doing everything except sewing...apparently I suck at it big time. Nevermind, I found another calling but am still addicted to fashion.

Haute couture, high fashion, is a select club opened to extremely talented and creative French designers [although the who started this movement was an Englishman, Charles Worth with the House of Worth, in the 1850's] and a few honorary members. For me, the pieces they produce are art...designed and constructed by artisians who will sometimes spend hundreds of hours on a single garment. And, most notable of all, most of the workmanship is done by hand! Here are my favorite 13 haute couture pieces from the Spring 2007 collection of John Galiano for Christian Dior. These are pieces of art.

Wow, did I not say they were incredible?!?

Wow, I love seeing the details you're showing in those pics.

Great TT!

Wow! What incredible fabrics! I'm a very tactile person (note I said TACTILE, not tacky) and I love all the textures. I'm the type of person that has to handle everything in a store because it's not enough that it looks good, it has to feel interesting too...

Thanks for visiting my T13! You forgot to add your link, is it all right if I add it for you?

I absolutely love these photos of the John Galiano's collection - where did you find them?

These dresses are pieces of art. The embroidered details are awe-inspiring. I think my favorite (if I had to choose) would be #7. Love the structure and the references to old Nippon - I am transported back to the temples in Kyoto.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Absolutely Amelia...thanks darlin'!

I guess I was in a hurry so I wouldn't see too many details. I'm a reader, I know I would have seen a word and then been in there reading it all :-) I have seen the movies though so I'm not completely lost!

I love these dresses. Though I must say I generally am not the biggest fan of many runway shows, these dresses are gorgeous.

Absolutely stunning. I live in Japan and I never cease to find the kimono fabrics and designs here to be incredible in their beauty. Thanks for sharing that.

My TT is up. 13 reasons spring is in the air. And I've included a picture of the sakura that are blooming, which is a motif in so many Japanese designs.

French fashion ! What is french fashion it has been ! Now they all use Italian designers French fashion is not so in anymore ! All the greats like Dior, Chanel, St. Laurent that's the past. Even the French agree, lol !

I don't know what else to say but... um... interesting. Sadly, our local mall doesn't carry stuff like this :)

While I'm sure that a ton of work went into each and every... um.. Gown, art would be the only way to describe them because everything seems impractical and hard to wear.

Shorts, t-shirts and thongs are the best!

Happy TT!

I've always admired design originals as works of art. They are incredible. Gorgeous.
Happy Thursday!

They're very cool, and I can't help thinking "they would have looked great on my Barbie when I was a kid!"

And most definitley art (though I love those pink shoes)!

Yeah, as soon as I saw John Galliano's name, I knew what I was in for. He's brilliant! I don't know I'd ever wear his stuff (I'm more of a Betsey Johnson/Sandy Starkman kinda girl), but man, just to look... a feast for the eyes.

Happy TT! I'm glad you stopped at West of Mars; hope you'll come back.
