Tilly Greene and the Perfect Gift is a Book

It's finally happened!  Finally!  For years I've been reading ebooks and proclaiming to all who asked about the true glories that can be found with the format, but couldn't wholeheartedly recommend a device - couldn't until now that is :-)

Back in April the cutie jumped the paperback ship for convenience and ease of purchase with a Kindle 3G + WiFi and has never looked back until this little hiccup - the Kindle Fire.  While he prefers to read his ebooks on his original device, the Fire is more diverse in what it can do.  I, on the other hand, prefer to read on the Fire so will be taking it on our next trip instead of the iPod Touch I've been using.  Don't get me wrong, I still love my Touch, but the screen on the Fire is a much much better size for reading and a bit of internet.

So, while technically not a book, I think it is the perfect gift for a big book reader.  Honestly, if this device had come out before our big trip, I would have bought one for my sister as an early Christmas pressie - instead I had to watch her buy English language paperbacks at almost $30/each as she ran out of reading material!

Speaking of wickedness...

I have not so subtly hinted that I'd love a Kindle Fire, but I don't think the hint has been taken. However, my birthday is in January.

Do you have any of the problems with it that NY Times column mentioned? The only ones I can remember is the on/off button is in a bad spot and people are accidently hitting it. The other is the color screen isn't as good for long term reading as the E-Ink technology in the standard kindle.

I am not going to be getting an ereader, I like my traditional paperback and hard cover books to much.

Good, Bad and Kinky sounds awesome.

I love my ereader, and it made me crazy watching my Mom spend so much money on paperbacks, so...I bought her a Kindle Touch for Christmas. She is moderately tech savy, so I think she is going to have a lot of fun with it.

Tilly!!!!!! I've missed seeing you. I didn't get to go to RT in LA this year. But I was able to attend RomatiCon for EC. Missed seeing you there, also missed seeing you there last year. I'm hoping to make it to
Chicago. Can't wait to read your new releases.
Merry Christmas

Anne - while I haven't had a chance to read the NYTimes or any other take on the Fire, I can tell you that for me the on/off button is not a problem and the screen is a choice that I prefer - others are einkers like the cutie. Its a personal preferance. That said, we're getting loads of questions and requests to see/try.

Mary - you stick with what works for you Mary, the joy of reading is what matters most :-)

Cathy and Tracey - go Moms! Mine is ready for one as well!

Julianne - hey there darlin'! You definitely got around last year and I'm sure had a blast! I hope to make it to Romaticon, but I think RT is off - we shall meet up!

BookAttict, Savannah and everyone here - happy happy holidays to all and to all good reading :-)
