Censorship Sucks!

Okay, I often use Photobucket for the pictures I post here and elsewhere, and they've crossed the censorship line - big time!

Back in my university days I spent weeks studying this gentleman, taking pictures of him from every angel, and do not think he is obscene in anyway!  His name is the Lansdowne Herakles and he lives at the Getty Villa.

He's a spectaular specimen of Roman improvisation work, which is unusual because they normally flat out copied Greek originals.  Those are good, but this Herakles is spectactular.

How dare you, Photobucket!

How dare you takedown and label this fine specimen of Roman sculptural artwork as "inappropriate".  He has survived almost 2000 years - intact - will you be able to say the same thing?

A question for another day is Herakles vs Hercules - fascinating stuff.

Hi. Interesting blog. I don't mind the sculpture and maybe for my older daughter but I wouldn't want my younger daughters to see it. I would probably just steer them around it and go on. Just last night there was a show on History Ch on Ancient Sexuallity and it was fine until they started showing pics and then we changed the channel.

It is awesome artwork but it isn't appropriate for all ages. Have a good day!!!

Hiya Brandy.

Thank you for your comment and it reminded me to put my age warning back up so youngsters, like your daughters, would know they weren't supposed to be here :-)

Take care!

Yeah, whadda do? I personally love the piece of art and think it is beautiful. Don't kids study this stuff in school anyway?

Thank you, darlin', I adore this Herakles and all I learned from him.

It's a shame we're losing the impetious to learn about cultures through their art starting with the Venus of Willendorf because they're nude. Gasp! Sorry, but this is not an object to be censored.
