eReaders.

There, I mentioned eReaders as a potential gift, however, that information is out there, everywhere, and it's up to the reader to decide what works best for them.  I, on the other hand, am waiting for the perfect Tablet to come out and they are starting to trickle out now.  The iPad isn't for me because of its size, but there are others that intrigue me, and I will be testing them out [in stores] to see which, if any, fit me best.  For now, here are a few I'm looking at, and already discarding.

eBook Talk!

Actually, it's about how to read an ebook, and all that is happening in the eReader field. New devices are being released all the time and you might be able to find some deals this coming holiday season. My hint is to start your research now, so when you see a bargain on the one that suits you, you're ready!

Don't forget, you can also read an ebook on your mobile, netbook, laptop, and desktop computers. You can read all over the place, doctor's office to the train. But, you can also pick the format that suits you at any particular moment, no one is tied to any one way to read.

My eReader Thoughts

I'm getting closer to delving into purchasing a dedicated eReader! As an author/reader who really enjoys the ebook format, it may shock many people to realize I've never owned a eReader. Nope. I firsted started reading ebooks on a laptop, then went to the Pocket PC, and am currently on the iTouch.

The reason I haven't bought a dedicated eReader is because I haven't found a device that will do everything I want, which isn't all that much. What exactly am I looking for?

1. I want it to be capable of carrying copious amounts of ebooks. Who knows what I'll be in the mood for when I get a chance to read.

2. I want it to be wifi so I can shop wherever I want. This is where business and pleasure mix for me. Being someone who receives royalty checks, I prefer to make my purchases through the publisher first. After that, it's either All Romance eBooks] or Barnes & Noble [the latter now has both my ebooks and paperbacks sitting side-by-side.

3. I want to be able to hold it easily in one hand and turn pages without it being a big production.

4. I want to be able to read an ebook in the format of my choice - PDF. Having been reading ebooks for almost ten years, I have a huge library in this format, and like having the opportunity to read them all.

See, I'm not asking for much. So, who have I had my eyes on that will do all this?

Since I first stumbled upon the iLiad [which, as a Classic Greek major, immediately drew my attention], I've been moving that much closer to taking the last step to owning a device purely for reading ebooks, and now I'm there. It has everything I want and much more.

Book and eBook Talk

Tuesday's I normally write about what I've been reading in both traditional and ebook formats. Well, I mentioned earlier the cutie and I have been traveling quite a bit this summer. One of the drawbacks is quick turnarounds. Over a month ago I was doing the laundry and grabbed the cutie's robe [otherwise known as "The Library"] to wash. Why The Library? I kept my pocket pc in it for tub reading material :-) Anyway, I went to put the load in the dryer and start the next when I found my beloved Toshiba Pocket PC languishing at the bottom of the washer. I've owned this gem for almost 6 years and never had a problem! The cutie tried to resuscitate and it would have worked fine except the battery couldn't hold a charge.

Sigh.

For the rest of our various trips I've been carrying around a stack of traditional paperbacks and it only helped remind me why I bought a pocket pc in the first place. No hassles!

I've been actively seeking a replacement but promised the cutie I wouldn't do anything immediately - this presents a possible Christmas pressie. This is so much harder than I thought it would be, especially with a couple of very long trips on the cards. Anyway, I've discounted getting a phone that reads pdf files but wouldn't mind one with Wi-Fi [hit a hot spot and buy an ebook, no matter what country I'm in works good for me].

So, what have I been reading during this most disturbing upheaval to my normal patterns? Julie Garwood's historicals. It's been lovely to revisit her older books and remember why I keep her on my shelf.
