Quick CONTEST!

We're going to the fancy footwork of a Highland Jig type of contest ... okay, not really, but it is going to be fast, fast, FAST!

On September 18th the people of Scotland go to the voting booth to decide on Independence.  The choices are Yes, they want to leave United Kingdom or No, they want everything to stay the same. Tough question to answer.

In December 2008, almost 6 years ago, my book Highland Heat was released by Ellora's Cave, and has been a fan favorite ever since.  How can I make such a claim?  After all these years readers maintain Hamish Buchanan's secret.  There's been a spoiler here and there but generally they are ignored.  I adore the sexy Highlander and his unique qualities. To me, one of the best things is when a reader sends me something special w/his likeness or a hint about him on them ... love!

Now, I have no idea how Hamish would vote, it's personal, but I do have a Tilly Greene tote bag with goodies from my Christmas visit to Scotland and something I bought from a favored shop that reminded me of the book.  Here's a little hint ... he can't stop grinning because of what he's sitting on :-)

All you need to do is enter through the Rafflecopter, below ... done, easy peasy pudding pie.  There are three ways to add extra oomph as well.  A winner will be picked once I wake up on the 18th!

So, go, enter, you have until midnight on the 17th!

My Scorching Book Reviews BDSM Blog Hop Post

HIGHLAND HEAT by Tilly Greene
Shape Shifter Erotic Romance + Bondage

How do you know when to trust someone with a secret held for a lifetime?

On the surface, Hamish Buchanan has it all and because of the horror surrounding his birth, he possesses the love and respect of the entire Scottish nation. But underneath, where few are allowed, lurks a secret. Although well hidden, the furtiveness needed to keep others from discovering it, also keeps him from committing fully to another.

One night, he discovers there's a part of him that thinks he's hunting something, or someone. Unable to shake the odd feeling, Hamish doesn't put it all together until he sees Grace Strachan, only then does he begin to understand what’s going on. He's in season and she is his mate.

Establishing trust with another has never been easy, but Hamish must find a way with Grace or risk losing her forever, and that simply isn’t an option.

Shall be giving Highland Heat in eBook so this offering is open to everyone, but more on that at the end of this post!

Now, there are many reason I picked Highland Heat, but foremost is that I absolutely adore Hamish Buchanan.  When asked who a favorite hero of mine might be, he is up there, and I think its because of how he handled the horrible start he had in life.  He's a strong guy who accepts he's different and yet doesn't deny himself anything.  Hamish is a Scotsman who enjoys a healthy sex life, but because of what makes him unique, he uses bondage to keep his secret safe.

The funny thing is, he's a smart man, but not so much when it comes to settling down with one woman.  Hamish makes a big mistage and it was a joy to write him scrambling around to things right with Grace.

I found Highland Heat a joy to write and hope you enjoy reading about Hamish and Grace, they are quite a couple.

On the 21st I will draw the name of one commenter here and gift them with a Highland Heat ebook from All Romance [ARe] and that makes it open to all international readers.  So, enter below for the big blog hop Scorching Book Reviews prizes below, comment here to enter my giveaway, and then get hopping, there are so many great authors to discover and prizes to potentially win!

Funky Fashion Part IV - again!

It was the 10th Annual Dressed to Kilt fashion show: From Scotland with Love on Monday and in celebration, I simply had to bring out one of my favorite tartan pieces of attire.

They're a good laugh!

Blog originally posted April 16, 2009

This past week I received some fabulous news, Highland Heat will soon be released in paperback - woohoo! As you can guess, my mind right back to Scotland and, well, I forgot I had this gem in my files.

There's still a nip in the air, do you need something to keep your nipples warm? These tartan pasties can be had through Etsy, along with a cute knitted set.

Did you blink and miss my exciting news?

Night Owl Reviews gave Highland Heat a 4.5 Top Pick!  I'm so excited about this because Hamish Buchanan, the gorgeous hunk of Scottish manhood who wears a kilt in the correct way - commando! - is and always will be one of my favorite heroes!

The other exciting news was that Tied Up For Love was nominated for a 2011 BDSM short story Authors After Dark (by the way, 2012 convention is in New Orleans and registration is open!) Bookie Award.  If you know only one thing about me other than I write erotic romances is that Greek Mythology is a love of mine.  To keep the joy alive, I write the Mythological Messes Redux series of which this is book #5, and the hero is Marsyas - he also happens to be one of my absolute favorite sculptural pieces.

Now, next month, December, Whiskey Creek Press Torrid is releasing both Call Me Lucifer and My Angel in one ebook and it's called Good, Bad and Kinky.  Whether in Heaven, Hell or on Earth, the people are good, bad and occasionally kinky :-)  By the way, Lucifer is another favorite hero of mine - the man has forever acquired quite a bit of bad press and yet he's one of the most loveable characters I've ever written.

My second to the last bit of squeeling good news is that Konnichiwa Cowboy, book 2 in the Branded series of which Ride 'em is book 1, is now available.  It's a short and slightly unconventional in a couple of ways, but I enjoyed my research into geishas and wanted to share the scorcher with everyone.  A side note to Konnichiwa Cowboy is that I'm almost finished with its follow up called Giddy-up (Branded #2.5).

The last bit of news I'll keep brief - there will be more about this next week - is that there's a big book event coming real soon [starting November 25] and I'm giving a one of a kind prize away at the end!

There you go - my squeelworthy news!

What is a Folly?

"A costly structure demonstrating the foolhardiness of its builder." is how the Encyclopedia of the Exquisite describes a folly and is largely true, but I think of it as more romantic than that - which is why I had Hamish Buchanan from "Highland Heat" have one on his property in The Highlands.  They were often built as little palaces to bring a smile to a lovers face, even though they weren't all that habitable.

My cutie and I frequently visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden in Ripon, Yorkshire, England and it has a few follies dotted around the extensive site.  The one in the picture below is the best preserved and easiest to peak through the windows.  In case you're wondering, it would make a lovely reading nook.

One of the ultimate folly dabblers is King Ludwig of Bavaria with his Neuschwanstein Castle, which literally translates to "new-swan-stone".  It was built to resemble a 13th century palace like those found in a German folktale about a German prince who morphed into a swan, but Ludwig went a bit wild on the details:

By the way, Neushchwanstein, in case you don't already know, is the model for Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland.
"It took fourteen carpenters more than four years to complete the carving in his bedroom alone.  A trapdoor in teh dining room allowed the table to be lowered into the kitchen and set while the servants remained out of sight.  The throne room was decorated in fantasy Bysantine style.  A stalactite grotto off of Ludwig's study came complete with a waterfall and an electric "moon" moving through its phases."

What is a Good Swing?

I've written a scene or two that involved a swing - "Highland Heat" and "An Invitation to the World: China" come to mind - and the Encyclopedia of the Exquisite tells where the inspiration for such a device came from, at least it has to my writing.

"A suspended seat that oscillates backward and forward." is the brief description and pretty much states the basics, but the good stuff is in the details.

"In this diversion there are very many pretty shrieks, not so much for fear of falling off as taht their petticoats should untie," The Specatator noted in 1712.  "The lover who swings his lady is to tie her clothes very close together with his hat band before she admits him to throw up her heels."
Even better were the from Honore Fragonard who made swinging appear to be a bit of naughty foreplay.  Her skirts aren't tied and her lover is looking at her, um, dainty ankles and lovely legs.  Back in the day, The Swing [to the right] by Fragonard was denied entrance into England, but it now hangs in that country's Wallace Collection.

Would Hamish Buchanan Be Upset?

I was flicking through Elle the other day and came across a page called Highlands Heroine. There were tartan skirts, boots, sweaters and more, but at the bottom was a section called Wear It With, and I wondered if my hero from Highland Heat, Hamish Buchanan, would be upset by bags made of fuzzy soft lamb's wool?

Have you read Highland Heat?  What do you think the sexy highlander would do if he an attractive woman walked by him carrying one of these expensive bags?

RT Booklovers Convention Recap

I've been preparing to go to the RT Booklovers Convention held in Columbus, Ohio for what feels like forever but was more like a few weeks, month at the most. The big question is: Was it worth ignoring everything except it?

Yes and no.

Yes, because it is always nice to get out from beneath the laptop, and talk to like minded folks. Readers! While I met and met again some fantastic authors, it was the aspiring authors, readers, booksellers and librarians that boosted my energy levels.

The "no" comes because of the lack of time. There were some really interesting panels and they were over before they started. Every panel I went to had another one going at the same time.  So that's both good and bad.  Although it would be nice for more fresh - relevant and informative - material.

Frustrating, but totally worth going for having fun. That was short, sweet and to the point of my RT 2010 experience, here the extended version.

I arrived on the second day of the conference, but it was my Day 1 and even though I made it an hour earlier than I'd expected, it was a mad dash. After checking in, dropping luggage off in room, I went down and sat in on a friends panel, saw Eliza Gayle - a great lady and author - and met one of my cover artists - Kendra who did the spectacular Good, Bad & Kinky covers - for the first time, and then went to two more panels, and a third to support a friend. Next was a publisher [Samhain Publishing] event with booksellers [met Bonnie Dee and she's a real sweetheart, caught up a bit with Samantha Sommersby, and found the fabulous Queen JC Wilder sitting outside - she absolutely glowed]. From there, I put on a red sweater, and went to the Ellora's Cave Paint the Town Red party. Luck of the draw gave me a tall handsome man to escort me across the stage [prime place for tripping, but didn't], and then it was off to help man the swag table.

Like I said, it was go, go, go from the minute I landed and that meant I never had a chance to do any of the things I promised the cutie I'd do whilst there - eat, take my medicine or put my feet up. So I wasn't surprised to crash and had to go up early.

My Day 2 went more smoothly and it started with sitting in on a publisher's spotlight that interested me. Will I submit to them?  Maybe, I'll do some more research and we'll see.  From there it was a couple panels with a publisher lunch for its authors in between. Next was the RT Book Reviews ceremony and while I love supporting other authors achievements, I was horribly uncomfortable - the chairs, ugh. The only thing I came out of that event remembering is that Barbara Taylor Bradford gave the Brotherton Library [to the right thanks to Light Night Leeds] at my school, University of Leeds, her archive. Okay, I admit it was hearing Brotherton and Leeds mentioned and that sparked my attention. Later, for the first time ever, I went to the Faery Ball and think Stella Price [horns] and Stephanie Burke [entire costume] were dressed to the tens.

My Day 3 went even better, established my routine and went to two really good panels - maybe because they were handled well, informative and relevant, and coherent. After those two were finished and lunch had, it was off to Club RT and I was late. Hate being late, but thankfully the fabulous Stella Price made it not so bad. I chatted with all sorts and then, while not really paying attention, placed a shoe box on a bigger box and the table toppled over with a huge bang. Silenced the entire room. Didn't loose any toes, but it was close.

From there, it was time for the 'Ebook, Indie Publisher, Multimedia and Graphic Fiction Expo'. The authors I sat with [Cat Grant, LB Gregg, and Kathleen Grieve] were all wonderful. I briefly saw and chatted with C.H, Admirand [local to me author and met her husband] and Alessia Brio [the lady in charge of the Coming Together alturistic series which I strongly support] before the doors were opened.  Last but not least was another party I usually pass on, the Vampire Ball, and again Stella Price [that's her to the right and you can check out her photo album on Facebook] was the cat's meow of costumes. The lady is seriously creative.

My Day 4 was also my last. I checked out and then went to set up for the 'Giant Book Fair'. Before the doors were opened, I caught up with Francesca Hawley, a fabulous lady and author. Unfortunately my latest book, Double Punch, wasn't there but I still had fun talking about Hamish from Highland Heat and Hephaestus from Hephaestus Lays Down the Law from the two books I did have. Sitting beside me was Cat Grant, Kathleen Grieve and Donna Grant - another lovely lady.  Nothing can prepare someone for the wildness that is a Giant Book Fair.  Many people come prepared with not one but two or three suitcases to fill with books - yes, SUITCASES!  My advice is don't get fussed with the crowds, it is what it is - enjoy the experience.

When it was time to go, I said my goodbyes, and shared a cab with Carrie Lofty to the airport. From their it was all good - easy flight, no lost luggage, and we went for a Chinese takeaway on the way home.

I know there were many more people I met and chatted with, trully enjoyed spending time with [Ann and Robin], only I have a sieve of a mind for names - I'm sorry.  All in all, it was fun, great to see and chat with everyone which for me is the best part of events [booksignings to conferences], and it feels so good to be home.

The question now is:  Will I go next year to the one in Los Angeles?  Southern California in the Spring?  Maybe, okay a strong maybe.  It always depends on what else is going on in life, but I am thinking very seriously about it.  Besides, my family is nearby, and a visit to the beach and the total relaxation it offers me, is always wanted.

Something New, Again!

Okay, I enjoyed it so much the first time, I'm doing it again!

What is that, you ask?

Candles.

For the 2009 RT Convention in Tampa the Love's Immortal Pantheon anthology authors decided to have special candles created, put them together, and that was a giveaway we offered to celebrate the paperback's release. Hephaestus Lays Down the Law was handled by Jfay at Studio 3B and it has to be one of the best experiences I've had in ages. Hephaestus's scent has been called Hot Blooded and it is my very favorite - cinnamon and red wine. The candle itself is also fabulous looking, I mean, it suits the God of the Forge and Master of Fire.

A few months later and I needed to come up with a something unique as a promotional giveaway at the two conventions I'll be attending in October. Nothing was coming to mind, but each time I walked into my office and was treated to a delightful waft of Hot Blooded, it finally came to me that what I was looking for was sitting right in front of me. You see, Jfay creates these scented wax shapes called chips and, like pot pourri, throw off the chosen smell, only they remain crisp, clean and pretty in appearance.

So, after dashing off an email, it has all been handled, and now I'm even more eager to go to these events. Lucky for me, Jfay will be creating another unique candle, this time for Hamish in Highland Heat. The scent, Scottish Glen, will clearly speak of Scotland, but also perfectly frame the story.

Through this most recent partnership with Jfay, I've joined Wick'd Reads stable of authors, and am looking forward to more candles in the future.

If you can't make it to either the Ellora's Cave RomantiCon [Oct 9-11], where I'll have a basket with Hamish's Scottish Glen candle to giveaway or Authors After Dark Weekend [Oct 23-25], where I'll have a basket with both the Hephaestus Hot Blooded candle and Hamish's Scottish Glen candle to giveaway, then you should know that you can always purchase one through Wick'd Reads.

eBook and Book Talk!

Tuesday is usually when I talk about books and ebooks that are on my mind, today, I'm going to shake it up a bit and all because of a bit of "news" I saw on the t.v. this morning.

President Obama and his wife Michelle are headed on their first international trip as president and first lady. The story was short but it caught my attention. It featured the what the British press thought the people would think of Michelle and I was stunned by what they said. A few of them stated that they didn't think she would be well liked because she was a confident, independent thinking and successful woman and the British people preferred doey eyed submissives like Princess Diana [their words, not mine but I can't put in quotes in case I missed a few words out].

Another member of the press, a woman, said in reference to Michelle Obama's fashion sense, she'd probably receive a Jacqueline Kennedy [Jackie O] type reception, although Obama had more substance to her.

Oh man, was I angry. Not enough to boot the Brit beside me out of bed but enough to use today's eBook and Book Talk entry to first state the press don't speak for all people who live in the same country as they do, nor should they pretend to.

Grrr!

Did you know that the female characters I write about are independent, confident and successful? I do and wouldn't have it any other way! A few stories take place in Britain [The Gilded Cage and Highland Heat] and one takes on sexual equality, with women coming out on top [Zandia].

Turn away from this type of negativity and read/write/think something positive about women today.

Fabulous Dressing Part VI

If you're in London, then head over to the V&A for the Stephen Jones exhibition. He is an incredible milliner who has worked with such designer as Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Comme des Garçons and Marc Jacobs - WOW, what a group!

The show runs from now until May 31 2009 and is a must see.

By the way, this man and Philip Treacy are the two milliners I used as inspiration for Grace Strachan in Highland Heat - yes, she designs fabulous hats for a living.

A bit of random ridiculousness...

My first ad [it was with Ellora's Cave for Highland Heat] in the Realms of Fantasy magazine turned out to their second to the last issue - what a shame!

This was an interesting magazine that had short stories, movie and book reviews, and showcased artists - all in the world of fantasy.

In fact, I discovered work of Daniel Merriam, whose "In the Lap of Luxury" was the cover. I'll be looking for more from him - maybe visit one of the galleries that is showing his work because I like them.
