Filla is a nymph used to the raucous ways of a Dionysian festival and allows a handsome newcomer, Marsyas, to strip her down for a passionate interlude while tied to a tree. After time spent alone, together, she knows little about him beyond the physical. However, her feelings for him are growing until he brings her back for the next festival, and suddenly she's not sure of anything.

“You’re remembering when I first took your delicate sweet ass, aren’t you honey.”
“I am,” she whispered, and felt her heart beat race as the memory played across her mind. “It was here, at the last festival, beneath that tree,” she pointed in the direction of the tree she thought of as theirs while keeping her eyes on the duo.
“Do you think he’s enjoying himself as much as you did?” Marsyas moved around behind and held her breasts in his hands while he continued talking quietly in her ear. “You looked so beautiful hugging the tree trunk as hard as you could. The old twisted trunk offered places for your hands to hold and, if I remember correctly, a notch to put one of your feet in when you lifted it up for, well, better angles. And then there were your soft breasts, scratched by the rough bark, but the hard tipped nipples shouted their excitement of the coarse treatment. I now know it was the first time your back rose was breached, but you never said whether you were scared of the unfamiliar or not. Were you?”
While he talked, his hands gently cradled her breasts and the thumbs reached up to stroke over their tips. The soft touch lulled her desire to a simmering state, but when he added a pinch and tug, the need between her legs started to quiver for attention. Her hands reached back to hold his hips, to use the grasp to bring him closer to her body. She’d wanted him before they saw the man and centaur in action, but now she needed him even more, and everything else left her mind except how to break his iron grip on his passionate nature.
The pinches became firmer and then his erect rod teased her rear crack. She felt her breath stop in the back of her throat and her eyes started to close. No longer was the man being taken moaning, he grunted when the centaur grabbed some of his hair, and started to scream his pleasure as he was taken quicker. Filla understood the desire for harder and faster, but the slow with power possession were also delightful.
“Were you afraid, Filla?”
She’d forgotten the question and found her voice raspy when she finally answered.
“Not of you, but the unknown had given me a moment’s pause.” She tried to sound like she was paying attention to their conversion, when she wasn’t really. Conversational awareness wasn’t possible while his hands played her body.
“Why not of me? We didn’t know each other and we’d found each other at a Dionysian festival, which are not known to be the safest places. Then there’s the obvious fact that I’m physically much bigger and stronger than you. I constantly worry about hurting you and that’s the last thing I want to do. You shouldn’t be so open, Filla. Please, you need to remember not everyone is good. Learn to put your guard up.”
“You’re good,” she told him at the same time as she noticed there was a real level of concern on his face. Something had happened for him to go off on such an odd tract and yet they hadn’t been apart since they’d met. Shaking her head to clear it of the need his fingers built, she looked over her shoulder, and found worry marks creasing his forehead. She’d never been hurt or even threatened with violence, by anyone, but there was real concern in his voice and on his face. “What’s going on, Marsyas? What’s happened that you need to say all this?”

Tilly Greene and the Perfect Gift is a Book
Pulp Fashion by Isabelle de Borchgrave is an artist who took well-known older paintings by masters and brought the fashion to life in paper and Savage Beauty shows the fashion by the late Alexander McQueen that was considered art. Both of these are the books from shows that were recently in museums and do a wonderful job of putting the reader close to being there in front of the pieces.
It's all about embracing and celebrating an individuals imagination. By the way, I've dabbled in the reimagining a classic before. They are currently 5 stories in the Mythological Messes Redux series. I twist and turn Greek myths and characters until they have a more substantial storyline than ancient authors gave them. The latest is:

Did you blink and miss my exciting news?
The other exciting news was that Tied Up For Love was nominated for a 2011 BDSM short story Authors After Dark (by the way, 2012 convention is in New Orleans and registration is open!) Bookie Award. If you know only one thing about me other than I write erotic romances is that Greek Mythology is a love of mine. To keep the joy alive, I write the Mythological Messes Redux series of which this is book #5, and the hero is Marsyas - he also happens to be one of my absolute favorite sculptural pieces.
Now, next month, December, Whiskey Creek Press Torrid is releasing both Call Me Lucifer and My Angel in one ebook and it's called Good, Bad and Kinky. Whether in Heaven, Hell or on Earth, the people are good, bad and occasionally kinky :-) By the way, Lucifer is another favorite hero of mine - the man has forever acquired quite a bit of bad press and yet he's one of the most loveable characters I've ever written.
My second to the last bit of squeeling good news is that Konnichiwa Cowboy, book 2 in the Branded series of which Ride 'em is book 1, is now available. It's a short and slightly unconventional in a couple of ways, but I enjoyed my research into geishas and wanted to share the scorcher with everyone. A side note to Konnichiwa Cowboy is that I'm almost finished with its follow up called Giddy-up (Branded #2.5).
The last bit of news I'll keep brief - there will be more about this next week - is that there's a big book event coming real soon [starting November 25] and I'm giving a one of a kind prize away at the end!
There you go - my squeelworthy news!

Excerpt
Ecstatic madness swirled around the clearing as Dionysus, god of wine and theater, skipped and danced through revelers with his mighty thyrsus in hand. Honey rained from the fennel stick and pine cone top onto random attendees, encouraging their passions to the surface, and ultimately to mate with whomever or whatever was closest. He whipped them further into a frenzied mindset and pushed them deeper into satisfying their lust for flesh. There were only two ways the frantic celebrants could shake loose the need infiltrating their minds and bodies, either through sex or violence.
Filla was a nymph, devotee of the god’s. Thankfully she’d never experienced the desire to tear another living being apart. She hadn’t been a follower for as many years as some, she wasn’t that old, but had been around long enough to discover a few of the secrets surrounding Dionysus and how he was worshipped. The disciples who were comfortable focusing on the wine and theater aspects saw little else, not the bad side of their favored divinity, and not his strong links to both life and death. Powerful and well supported, he was an immortal that shouldn’t ever be crossed.
As far as she was concerned devotion to the patron deity of agriculture and all the good he freely offered the community she chose to live within didn’t mean she had to compromise the standards she chose to live by. To both celebrate the final step in bringing the collective wine to fruition and to make it through an event in one piece, mentally and physically, would only be accomplished if she kept her distance from the people she knew to be unstable. The negative aspects of honoring the god weren’t enough to deny the sexual cravings that held her captive when it was festival time. Previous encounters had been gratifying, even fulfilling, but she’d had a taste of something better. Someone that made her happy and dreams appear possible, and he was at her side.
Marsyas.
They walked through the clearing, past a group of wild maenads eager for the sacrifice to start. She had her arm around his sleek warm waist and smiled feeling his around her shoulders, holding her close. They’d physically connected at the previous event and hadn’t spent a moment apart since. A Dionysian festival was not the place to find love, but their time since, spent at his place overlooking the sea had been filled with her feelings for him growing deeper, more complex. She wouldn’t label them love, there were too many unknowns to be discovered, too many questions to be answered, barriers in both of them to be knocked down, although her heart remained open for him to fill.
She’d always considered herself an adventurous woman when it came to embracing what life offered, but he’d shown her how much she’d been missing by giving her mind, body and soul over to the devotion of another. The past few months had been enlightening and full of pleasure, and she hadn’t wanted it to end. Happiness had wiped all thought of attending the big spring festival from her mind. She’d been caught off guard when he mentioned bringing her back to the temple in time for the celebration. The move left her with questions, doubts really.
Had he lost interest in her? In them and where they might have been headed? The attentive care he continued to treat her with didn’t support the concern, but sometimes actions hid the truth. Filla knew she should ask him what was going on, but they were headed toward their special place, at least she thought it was special, and didn’t want to break the mood.
A startlingly loud yell broke into her thoughts and she looked around to see where the sound had come from. There were plenty of people shouting their fun, groaning their pleasure, but the cry had sounded like one of terror, and then she found the source.
Not too far from the tree where they’d culminated their relationship was a man stretched across a long stone who held his ass cheeks open for a centaur who stood between his legs. While she watched, he was slowly fed a long thin cock, and the yell turned into a moan. The man appeared to be enthralled by the others possession of his backside and she felt her body react to that discovery.

Quite a bit has been happening lately
In regards to writing, I stood up for the In-Betweeners with 'Grey is a Good Starting Place' on Selena Illyria's blog which hosted a month+ discussion on Hero, Villian or In-Between.
With AAD coming around the corner, I offered up the '5 Reasons Why I Love AAD' on the Authors After Dark blog, and now even more eager for August to get here.
On a personal level, I talked about my 'Favorite Things' on the Samhain Publishing Blog, and 'My Big Sin' on Leigh Ellwood's Me Want Food blog.
During all that, I also had "Tied Up For Love" released, and shall share an excerpt soon.
Phrew, need to catch my breath, and finish "Missing"!

Remember Marsyas...
No? Let me remind you of a few things. Marsyas is the latest Ancient Greek mythological figure to be treated to a fresh ending, actually fresh start would be more apt, but then again, that is what the Mythological Messes Redux series is all about
The man is actually an ipotane, a mythical creature from before satyrs and centaurs. I might have shown you before, but I'm going to do it again because this is a stunning piece. To the right is a picture from the Getty Collection of a remnant that also happens to be one of my all time favorite pieces of art.
He isn't big, less than 20", and the artist added horns which the real Marsyas didn't have, however, the man is very sexy as sin and I came to that conclusion long before I knew his sad tale.

Allow me to introduce you to...
I just realized that I've told you Marsyas is the latest Ancient Greek mythological figure to be treated to a fresh ending, actually fresh start would be more apt, but then again, that is what the Mythological Messes Redux series is all about, however, I haven't shown you the man himself.
So, without any further ado, let me introduce you to the real ipotane, Marsyas.

Location! Location! Location!
Yeah, Marsyas is finished, and I thought I'd share that the story takes place in Ancient Greece.
Thinking back to the four previous stories in the Mythological Messes Redux series, only one [Double Punch takes place largely in San Francisco] has a footing in contemporary times. Mount Olympus, various temples, residential dwellings, settings out amongst nature and a forge are where most of the important things take place in this series.
A great deal of information is known about what life was during this time and the scenery is also fairly well established, which offers a good base to write a story based in this period. The series is founded in giving mythological characters a second chance at a new ending and I think from the offer through to the outcome needs to be plausible. The most difficult part in writing this series is when I needed to take a known site and manipulate it enough to suit the story, without creating something that wouldn't be possible during that period.
Yes, I love a challenge, and you'll have to check out Marsyas when it's released to see how it all turns out.

Ultimate Plot Point

Plots come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some are a straight line, others whirl about like they're caught in a windstorm, but no matter what they look like the plot usually hinge on a finite point. As I was working on the latest WIP, it came to me that the ultimate point of the plotline in this one is hybris [sometimes spelt hubris]. A rare word to think about, but not really considering the piece is a part of my Mythological Messes Redux series, all of which have starting points in Greek Mythology.
Here's a bit more about hybris from Wiktionary:
Etymology
From Ancient Greek ὕβρις (hybris, “insolence, sexual outrage”).
Noun
hubris (uncountable)
1. Excessive pride, presumption or arrogance (originally toward the gods).
2. Unchecked arrogance
Hmmm, are you wondering how hybris plays out in this one?

When Research Gives Too Much Information

I have hit a difficult junction with my current WIP, part of the Mythological Messes Redux series, where I've unearthed a great deal of information, albeit interesting, but it's far too convoluted to put into a story.
Let me ask if you know anything about Centaurs? Satyrs? Yes, of course you do, but what about Ipotane? Ipotane? No? What if I told you they were the "original version of satyrs" and yet have more in common with centaurs? Confused? Not to worry, I am as well and studied the subject for many years, but there you have it - too much information.
Centuars are part human and part horse.
Satyrs are part human and part goat.
Ipotane are part human and part horse.
Just in case you're wondering, Fauns are not listed above because they're part of Roman Mythology, although time has brought them into association with satyrs and the Greek god Pan, and I'm not even going to bring up the Silene issue.
Phrew, told you there was bit too much, and yet interesting, information.
Well, I think there is a point when the reference books need to be put down and a line needs to be drawn, and I'm doing it here. He is an Ipotane and I'll work that into the story.
What do you think?
